In February, CADA submitted an appropriations request to Senator Barbara Boxer seeking funding for energy efficiency upgrades to its Park Mansion, Grantwood Manor, Brannan Court, and 1619 Q Street properties.  These four CADA rental properties are CADA’s biggest energy expense accounting for 42% of CADA’s utility bills for all its 784 housing units. The goal of this project is to boost energy conservation resulting in a 20% reduction in energy use from these buildings’ 2003 baseline use.  The annual savings from energy improvements will benefit all tenants, but particularly low income tenants and reduce the burden on CADA’s operating costs, thereby allowing CADA to retrofit additional properties in the future.

In May, Senator Boxer’s office moved this appropriations request to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for review.  If recommended by the Subcommittee, CADA’s request would move to the full Appropriations Committee for review.  CADA is very grateful for Senator Boxer's support and will keep the CADA community apprised of the progress of this request.

The Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA) is seeking a feasible way to relocate the 40’ by 40’ foot front portion of the Art Moderne apartment building located at 1517 N. Relocating the building would make it feasible to preserve this 4-unit structure for the future. CADA is seeking property owners in downtown Sacramento who might be willing to site this structure on their vacant land. CADA has funding available to pay the reasonable costs of the relocation and will donate the building itself.
